The Seattle SAGE Group (SSG)
Seattle based special interest group for system and network administrators.
Meeting Minutes December 12, 1996
What happened?
Well Leeland was supposed to be out (he was very sick). Well he came anyway and most
of the other attendants had a good laugh watching him dodge through the halls because
the director, who was supposed to be on a plane out of town, was still in the building.
However, attendence was light (expected due to the holidays).
The presentation by James Walden on CGI practices was very well done. There were some
excellent questions during the presentation which really brought out the subject material
nicely.
Known Bugs
Meeting Highlites
- 1) SSG Business
- Bruce Wynn was running the show.
- The SAGE board has not yet acted on opening up the SAGE mail-list server
for local groups. However, this idea has received strong support and is
expected to happen within a short time (SysAdmin time that is...)
- 2) Open floor comments and introductions
- No discussions points were brought up.
- 3) Presentation by James Walden
- "CGI Programming (or Pot Hole Management 101)"
James's presentation walked through the basics and more advanced
CGI uses. He has provided the slides and we'll let them speak for
us.
- 4) Closing
- The meeting ended precisely on time with no real comments for the notes from
the attendees.
- 5) Dinner
- A very annoying time was had...(personal bias I think). Leeland's wife attended this
meeting. She suggested going to Red Robin for diner and everyone agreed. So we translocated
to the Red Robin at Northgate. She also let it drop that it was, in fact, darn close
to Leeland's birthday. At which point Bruce and a few others pushed Leeland off to the
arcade while they discussed some nonsense. Upon sitting down the group made sure to
tell the waiter that it was Leeland's birthday. At which point the festivities began
in full. By the end of the meal Leeland was properly red faced and took the birthday
song with the free desert well enough.
The Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for January 9th. The topic to be presented is
"IMAP implementation (or Squeezing Blood From A Turnip Would Be Easier)"
by Mark Fromm.
