Conference Name Change – Cascadia IT Conference

Some Winebago group already had our cool name so we’re changing ours to keep from confusing people.

Introducing the “Cascadia IT Conference” aka CasITConf

Same great workshop, less potential for confusion.

And we’re looking at YOU to volunteer and help make it that great workshop we all know it can and will be.  Won’t you lend a hand?  Email casitconf-chairs [..] sasag.org to volunteer.

CasITConf’11: Call for volunteers – SASAG & LOPSA PNW Regional conference

Hey All,

We need your help planning and staffing a regional conference of System

Administrators.  The goal of this conference is to build a community of

system administrators which extends the network of expertise beyond the

workplace.  The emphasis will be on shared culture, experience and

teaching. Our goal is to build communities with formal and informal

levels of trust.  The conference will be co-sponsored by SASAG and LOPSA.

We would appreciate your help. Please volunteer for a committee and/or

make suggestions for new committees, changes to committees or tasks that

ought to be added.  Just reply indicating the committees/activities to

which you would like to contribute your time and effort.

Content Committee(s)

These committees will decide on the presentations for each panel and the

training schedule.

Lodging

This committee will compile of list of available lodging near the

Conference venue.

Logistics

This committee will organize: registration, checkin, mics, speakers,

back office, bookkeeping/accounting, networking/wifi/isp. We would like

to hand this off to AH if possible.

Marketing & Advertising Committee

This committee will make sure the call for presentations and

registration is sent out to the appropriate mailing lists, tech

communities, professional groups, organizations and others

Program

This committee will arrange for the announcement of speakers and other

general announcements.  They will also arrange for timers.

Reception / Social Activities

This committee will arrange for food and greetings.

(Pubs, Sightseeing, Restaurants, Cruises, Tours, Bike Rentals)

Sponsorship

This committee will try to get the conference quality sponsorship.

Transportation

This committee will compile a list of transportation options near the

conference venue.

Venue

This committee will gather bids for venues that hold 100 people with

enough power and network. Location should be near public transportation

(light rail and bus) and lodging. Hoping AH will negotiate rental

agreements.

Subject: Trixbox Asterix VOIP PBX and impact of latency and jitter on VOIP calls
Presenter: Mike Pennacchi, Network Protocol Specialists, LLC

We will be taking a look at the Trixbox VoIP PBX. We will briefly look at how to install and setup the PBX. Additionally, we will use a WAN emulator to look at the impact of latency, packet loss, and jitter on Voice over IP phone calls. The analysis of the calls will be performed using the Wireshark and ClearSight protocol analyzers.

Mike Pennacchi is the owner and lead network analyst for Network Protocol Specialists, LLC. He has over 16 years experience as a full time troubleshooting consultant and trainer. Mike spent 9 years with PACCAR working as an application developer, LAN administrator, and Network Technology Manager. The next 6 years was spent at Pine Mountain Group, Inc. as a senior network analyst and trainer. During this time he traveled around the United States troubleshooting critical network problems. In 2007 he was the lead network engineer at the Interop tradeshow in New York, responsible for the design, construction and deployment of the world’s largest traveling network.
